Sin is a cancer and a curse! It is the greatest destroyer. From the beginning of time, it has separated man from God, brought suffering into the world, and darkened the human soul. Every known vice—pride, lust, greed, wrath, envy, gluttony, and sloth—springs from a heart turned away from God. Sin is not only disobedience to God’s law; it is rebellion against His love.
Sin by nature is deceptive. It promises pleasure but yields sorrow. It entices with freedom but enslaves the soul. It grows subtly—what begins as a compromise becomes a stronghold. Sin blinds, binds, and ultimately destroys!
God’s charge to us in the holy scripture is to never tolerate sin, negotiate with it, or manage it, but to flee from it. To shun sin is to guard our heart, to walk in the fear of the Lord, and to delight in righteousness. As Joseph fled from Potiphar’s wife, so must we run from every temptation that seeks to ensnare us.
Perhaps you’ve battled with sin for so long and your efforts ended in futility. This is because it’s beyond our human strength. Overcoming sin is not what we can achieve on our own! Thankfully, God does not leave us helpless. In Christ, we find not only forgiveness but victory. “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace” (Romans 6:14). The Holy Spirit empowers the believer to live above sin and to walk continually in the newness of life.
You can reap the fruits of holiness today! To shun sin is not merely to avoid evil—it is to embrace the beauty of holiness. Purity of heart, peace of mind, clarity of conscience, and intimacy with God are the rewards of the upright. The righteous shine like lights in a dark world, pointing others to Christ.
The choice is yours today! Every moment presents a choice: life or death, obedience or rebellion, blessing or curse. Choose life! Shun sin and its vices. Cling to Christ. Walk in the light. For “without holiness, no man shall see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14).
