When Heaven Records Your Life

“…and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.(Malachi 3:16)

If you knew that the record of your life is being kept, will you live differently?

It is remarkable that the entire story of a man’s life could be summed up in just two verses of Scripture. Such is the account of Tola (Judges 10:1–2), who judged Israel for twenty-three years. The Bible mentions his tribe, his father’s name, his place of residence, his years of service, his death, and his burial in Shamir—nothing more.

This simple record carries a profound lesson. Heaven records only what truly matters—deeds and service that have eternal value. Tola’s life was not measured by family status, possessions, or worldly achievements, but by his faithful service to God and His people. His record was brief but honorable, free from any stain or reproach.

In contrast, the account of Ibzan (Judges 12:8-10) , another judge of Israel, shows a man who raised sixty children—thirty sons and thirty daughters—and ensured that each one was married. He valued family life and the success of his children. Yet, while his story emphasizes earthly accomplishment, it reminds believers of a higher calling: to ensure that all things, including marriage, align with God’s will and remain within the fold of faith.

When Heaven records a life, it is not the length of years or the number of achievements that matter, but the faithfulness of service and obedience to God’s purpose. The true measure of a life is how much it contributes to God’s kingdom.

If you are not born again, you have no commendable record before God. You’re not even listed in His book! But you can change that right now by inviting Jesus into your life:
Lord Jesus, I invite you into my life to be my Lord and Savior, and to rid me of all my filthy tendencies. Teach me Lord, to live in ways that Heaven will record with joy. Help me to serve You faithfully, walk in holiness, and ensure that my family remain within the boundaries of Your will. May my life count for eternity. Amen.
