The place where joy never ends

“For a day in Thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.” — Psalm 84:10

The psalmist understood something many overlook: true joy is found only in God’s presence. He longed for the courts of the Lord, saying, “My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord.” (Psalm 84:2). To him, one single day with God outweighed a thousand days of worldly pleasure.

The Joy of His Presence

The courts of the Lord represent His presence—where peace rules and joy overflows. Scripture declares, “In Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalm 16:11).
When you come to God through faith in Jesus Christ, He fills your heart with joy the world cannot give. Even when storms arise, His peace remains. You no longer fear the future, for God’s Word assures, “Say to the righteous, it shall be well with him.” (Isaiah 3:10).

The Emptiness of Wickedness

In contrast, the “tents of wickedness” may appear full of fun and riches, but they are hollow within. Those who live without God often hide behind laughter that does not last. The Bible says, “There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.” (Isaiah 57:21).
Sin promises freedom but brings bondage. It offers excitement but ends in emptiness. Outside of God’s presence, the soul is restless, searching for peace it can never find.

An Invitation to Draw Near

The beautiful truth is that God’s presence is open to all. His court is not a place of religion, but of relationship—a meeting with the King of kings. There, you can pour out your heart and receive mercy. Jesus said, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” (Matthew 7:7).
Why remain in the tents of wickedness when the door to God’s house stands open? The Savior’s arms are stretched wide to welcome you in.
