If you have ever suffered loss, disease, depression, or despair, you may not have realized that such experiences can have spiritual roots. Many of these are manifestations of darkness, sponsored by the kingdom of darkness. Yet there is a greater and superior kingdom—the kingdom of light, ruled by the King of kings.
In the book of Isaiah 9:2, the Bible declares that the people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death have had a light shine upon them.
Verse 6 then reveals this light:
“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder… and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
This great Light is Jesus Christ.
The prophecy first calls Him light and then speaks of His government—an everlasting government of peace. To come to Jesus is to enter a kingdom where there is no darkness.
The Bible says in Colossians 1:13 that God has delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son. This reveals two kingdoms: the kingdom of darkness and the kingdom of light.
Darkness is marked by confusion, oppression, and despair. A person may have wealth and still lack peace, because money does not produce light. True light comes only from the kingdom of God.
In the kingdom of light there is peace, joy in the Holy Spirit, hope for the future, and the assurance of everlasting life. Jesus said in John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.”
When you come under His government—the government upon His shoulder—you come under a rule that brings peace, righteousness, and order into your life.
Today you can choose to leave the kingdom of darkness and enter the kingdom of light—moving from confusion to clarity, from oppression to peace, and from fear to hope.
Come to the Light.
Come under His government.
Come into the kingdom of peace.
