The confession, “Jesus is Lord,” is one of the most profound declarations a person can make. It is much more than a Christian slogan or a statement of belief, it is a declaration of who Jesus is and a commitment to live under His authority.
What does it mean that Jesus is Lord?
A lord is one who has authority, ownership, and the rightful power to rule. To say that Jesus is Lord is to acknowledge that He is the supreme ruler over heaven and earth and to willingly surrender every area of our lives to His leadership. It means that our thoughts, decisions, ambitions, and desires are no longer governed by our own will but by His.
After His resurrection, Jesus declared, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me” (Matthew 28:18). His authority is absolute. There is no power greater than His. This is why His name carries such power. In His name, the sick are healed, captives are set free, and the forces of darkness are defeated, not because the name itself is a formula, but because it belongs to the One who possesses all authority.
When a person truly receives Jesus as Lord, there is a transfer of ownership. Salvation is not merely asking Jesus to help us through life’s difficulties. It is surrendering our lives to His rule. He becomes our Master, and we become willing followers who seek to obey Him. As Jesus asked, “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” Genuine faith always produces a life of obedience.
To confess that Jesus is Lord is therefore to embrace both His authority and His love. It is to trust His wisdom above our own, to obey His commands, and to rest in His promises. Under His Lordship we find purpose, peace, protection, and the sure hope of eternal life.
Today, Jesus still extends the invitation to you. Submit yourself to Him and obeys His commands with joy and faith. The One who has all authority in heaven and on earth is also the One who gave His life for you. There is no safer place than under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
